RETRO KNIGHT: THE STORY
Welcome to the wonderful world of Kingdomland: a vast, growing, yet medieval civilization that has been stuck in time for far too long. It is a living world where adventure awaits anyone who decides to go outside.
THE BIG DEAL
Kingdomland is a mighty country full of wacky characters, strange races of monsters, and of course: King Kerupt and Kerupt Industries. For ages, the Kerupt Family has been in power, their goal not to make their country better, but their pockets deeper. By controlling what technology is allow to leak into their kingdom, King Kerupt and his trusted advisor General Jerkface have a stranglehood on the minds of their people, many of which are total morons thanks to a lack of money, educational resources, and the ability to speak freely. Seeking a stronger grip, they have aligned themselves with the technologic-hating religion known as the Appelonians and Adam Jobless, a self-proclaimed holy man who longs to rid all of Kingdomland of modern advancements, that is except for their propaganda spewing network Kingdomland TV.

That's where Grudge comes in. Grudge is not actually a product of Kingdomland, but rather a hapless dope from the smaller, crazier land of Anarchy Island who is in search of a new future. After King Kerupt wins yet another election, Grudge gets fed up and decides to become a knight, but like, one of those old-school knights who does good in the world. Sadly, Grudge doesn't know much about this new land, about being a knight, or anything else for that matter. Guided by his old pal from Anarchy Island, Brick, Grudge goes to seek the wise wisdom of Daily Monotony, a wise, old man who has a sweet pad atop Mount Monotony. Eager to fix Kingdomland as well, Daily will provide Grudge with a cell phone, and text him when he sees trouble from his comfy spot atop Mount Monotony in the form of Daily Quests. With Daily's guidance, Grudge will learn about problems in the land, and decide who to help, who to fight against, and where his next adventures will take him.

Can Grudge and his new friends otherthrow King Kerupt and return the wealth to the people? Can they defeat General Jerkface and smash his propaganda machine? Can they banish Adam Jobless and end his brainwashing ways? Can Grudge learn how to make a good smoothie?

It's all up to you in Kingdomland as you become ... Retro Knight!
MAKE SOME FRIENDS
Grudge is new to Kingdomland, and he could use a few friends. While he has some cool armor and a sword, he isn't about to go out into the wilderness alone. In fact, he could probably use some help, specifically from people who may be better at fighting and hunting than him. If there is one thing you need to understand right away is that everyone in Kingdomland is potentially a playable character. We're not going to say that all of them are, but a vast majority of everyone you meet and talk to around Kingdomland could end up on your party. Some people may join for free and be generally useless. Some may be hard to find, but can be valuable assets who can pack a punch. Some might be mercinaries for hire who Grudge will have to pay in order to get their services. Some are old friends from Anarchy Island who might be willing to help their buddy out. In the end, Grudge can build a team of three additional party members and swap them at any time.

What does this all add up to? Well, friends. Allies. Buddies. As you play as these other characters, you might end up creating a lasting friendship with them. If they help you on one of your Daily Quests, and didn't get hurt too much along the way, they may come back for more adventures later, and maybe even help you take down King Kerupt if you can ever get a revolution going. With hundreds of NPCs out there in the world, there's no telling what kind of party Grudge might put together. From warriors to barbarians to hunters to pizza chefs to clowns to yetis to crazy cat ladies, there's a lot of crazy people out there just foolish enough to join you in your adventures.
LIFE IN KINGDOMLAND
Retro Knight: The Trials of Daily Monotony isn't your basic adventure/role-playing game. It's really more of a simulation with a lot of action. You don't beat the game; you simply live it. By coming back each day and completing Daily Quests, you'll explore more of the riches of Kingdomland, uncover new characters and stories, and begin to reshape the landscape based on your deeds. Your experience in Kingdomland will not be the same as others who play, nor will the party you put together in order to complete your Daily Quests.

And Grudge isn't all about being a knight. In fact, it's pretty easy to distract them. Maybe Grudge will take up fishing, or farming, or maybe he likes to collect pretty rocks. Maybe Grudge just wants to go hangliding or ride down the river in a barrel. We've heard the Mine Cart Rides are pretty fun, as are the Go-Kart races. Has Grudge ever go sailing? Maybe you can save up and buy a boat to go visit some islands off of Kingdomland's shores. Grudge will have a house of his own, so maybe he should take some time to decorate it a little. There's a lot to do in Kingdomland besides just going on adventures and battling monsters. Take some time to soak up Kingdomland!

On top of that, you can help build Kingdomland! By using the Level Designer, you can create new places for others to explore and expand Kingdomland beyond what we even expected. By using the NPC Designer, you can add new characters to towns, new shops to buy and sell goods, and even new playable characters who may or may not be totally badass. How big can this world get? How much of Kingdomland is yet to be discovered? What new adventures await? Who else will move to Kingdomland and offer to help? Kingdomland is indeed a living world, and it's evolving daily.
SO MUCH DRAMA
Grudge is just trying to get through his Daily Quests and earn a living, but there are others in Kingdomland who have more important things to worry about. In fact, a lot of people now belong to Teams, and these Teams don't exactly like each other very much. Despite Grudge's best efforts to just get through his day, his actions will either anger or impresss various Teams, even if Grudge never meant to. If you find yourself wandering into New Freeland territory to help them out, you might end up angering their rivals, which may make it more difficult for you to get help from them. Likewise, if you lend the their rivals a hand, you probably shouldn't wander into New Freeland (unless Daily Monotony thinks you should).

Teams can be hard to keep track of (don't worry, we have guides and helpful status reports), but it would be wise to take the time to try and impress everyone. Being a friend of a Team can lead to discounts in their shops, free items, access to Bonus Levels, and even new Playable Characters. Grudge can't always make everyone happy, but it never hurts to try.

Kerupt Industries - The Government. They hold all the cards, and have lots of power. They can get you access to cheap weapons and great power-ups, but at the cost of your soul.
New Freeland - A tiny, independent nation founded by Boozer The Clown and Hobbo Stubs. They're like Robin Hood and their Merry Men, but they steal from everyone. You may not want to trust them.
Punk Rock Pizza - A very popular pizza joint from Anarchy Island owned by Johnny Thunderpants. He has lots of fans, but not much to offer besides pizza. Johnny likes to fight.
Corporation H - The mysterious factory up on the mountain. Is it a castle or a mad scientist lab? It's both! Inside is the sinister super-villain Dr. Kockpocalipse, but he's not as bad as he thinks he is.
The McGreggor Clan - Are you a true Scot? The animal hunter from Anarchy Island has moved to hunt in Kingdomland. Teaming up with Angus McGreggor is smart. Just bring your own turkey leg.
Crusty Sock Brewing - In Grumpy Town is a large brewery known as Crusty Sock, and it gives Grumpy Town their odor. Leslie McStuffins runs the brewery which may or may not be popular. We can't tell.
Sweet Island Mafia - If you like organized crime, then you should hang out with the Sweet Island Mafia. Hopefully they don't remember Brick and Grudge killed their boss a few years back.
Club Spooky - Like cocktails and ghosts? Then hanging out with Club Spooky is for you! Founded by Carlos Juan Vespa and Cassandra Hayek Vespa, this swanky club may be too creepy for some in Kingdomland.
WeGotYourBack . Com - No, it's not a website. It's a trio of do-gooders who roam around looking for people to help, just like Grudge! They always seem to have what you need, but can be easily distracted.
The Waffler - The Lord of Breakfast is in Kingdomland, and he is far more powerful than most know. He has a series of underground factories, including the fabled Fortress of Waffletude. He's generally a nice guy.
The Sugar Dealer - You looking for some illegal sweets? Talk to Enrique Veloz; the Sugar Dealer. He's got all the goods you need, and supplies a lot of local shops. Just don't tell him his thugs are imagionary.
