DESIGN STUDIO: LEVELS EDITOR
Welcome to the Retro Knight Level Editor!
Let me quickly state that there is a learning curve! Making Levels takes practice!
If you want to just tinker around and make cool mazes for your friends to play, or hellscape impossible levels that require mind-boggling accuracy and skill, go right ahead. Play with it all you want. I won't judge. Just share the codes with your friends and go nuts. Your mazes (Levels) will remain disconnected from Retro Knight: The Trials of Daily Monotony, but that doesn't mean you can't just have fun.
If you want to make Levels that will appear in Retro Knight: The Trials of Daily Monotony, there are guidelines for Levels that will make the cut. Your Levels will need to be fun, playable, and with just the right amount of difficulty.
Terminology
We have our own Level Editor, and therefore we have our own language and terms. This will make things easier to understand just what the heck we're talking about going forward.
Square - A Square is a spot to place something: wall, enemy, treasure, whatever. Squares are basically just 'build spots' for you to place things.
Zone - A Zone is a grouping of Squares, commonly 27x27. There are other shapes, but let's not worry about that. You might also consider a Zone to be a 'Room', but we call them Zones because they can also be outside.
Levels - A Level is a 7x7 Grid of Zones. This is also your 'Maze', but again, not every Level is a Maze exactly. Your Level can be any shape within a 7x7 area, and we do not recommend using all 49 Zones in a Level. That'd be hell to make, and to play.
Template - To make Level Design faster, we have a library of Templates for you to get started. Each Zone has a variety of Templates you can generate. Just click Menu -> Generate Zone to load a random template. More on that later.
